"Pack your bags Sister Dumas!"
I have been planning and preparing to serve a mission since I was 16, just waiting to turn 21. One month before my 20th birthday, the prophet, Thomas S. Monson, made the big announcement that boys could start preparing and serving missions beginning at age 18 and sisters could start serving at 19........ What was I waiting for now? NOTHING.
I thought about it for about... 5 seconds... before I text my bishop and told him I was ready to start my papers.
I then listened to the rest of conference where I felt the reassuring feelings of the spirit telling me that this was the right decision. I was to serve a mission and to serve it now.
NO more waiting!
Then I called my mom and told her to set up all the necessary doctor and dentist appointments for the following week. I finished my papers in 5 minutes and 3 days later I said p e a c e out to my wizzdum teeth, h e l l o to painkillers, and my papers went in!2 weeks later...... My call came.
Dear Sister Dumas,
(cue the overwhelming tears)
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the........
PORTUGAL LISBON MISSION
Reporting to the Provo MTC on April 3, 2013 and obviously preaching the gospel in the Portuguese language.
I will be spending the next year and a half of my life, not stuck at the next semester of school,
(go AGGIES!) but I will be living in PORTUGAL! it took us a second to find it on the map. (P.S. it is not in South America....) The Kracken is now #europebound
I couldn't have been called to a more perfect mission.
I love this gospel more than a n y t h i n g and I cannot wait to dedicate 100% of my time and efforts to sharing the happiness I have because of it. I am so beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity I have to serve the people of Portugal for the next 18 months.
Here you can read alllllll about my adventures S.T.G. (spreadin' the gospel)
